Congratulations to the Ten new Masters of Wine

04B58BFBE9BA66E6EC0FE5289189D3CDThe Institute of Masters of Wine has named ten new Masters of Wine including the first female winemaker of Greek descent and the first female winemaker based in Spain. 

The new Masters of Wine are Almudena Alberca MW (Spain), Barbara Drew MW (UK), Olga Karapanou Crawford MW (USA), Regine Lee MW (UK), Elsa Macdonald MW (Canada), Thomas Parker MW (UK), Lindsay Pomeroy MW (USA), Nicolas Quillé MW (USA), Job de Swart MW (Netherlands) and Tim Triptree MW (UK).

There are now 380 Masters of wine, based in 30 countries.

The new Members of the IMW have proved their understanding of all aspects of wine by passing the Master of Wine examination, recognised worldwide for its rigour and high standards.

The MW examination consists of three stages, including theory and practical exams, and culminates in the submission of a final research paper, an in-depth study on a wine-related topic from any area of the sciences, arts, humanities, or social sciences.

In addition to passing the examination, all MWs are required to sign the MW code of conduct before they are entitled to use the initials MW. The code of conduct requires MWs to act with honesty and integrity and to use every opportunity to share their understanding of wine with others.

14 new Masters of Wine

The Institute of Masters of Wine  announced 14 new Masters of Wine. Based in five different countries, the new Members of the Institute are, Nova Cadamatre MW (USA), Julie Chene Nyheim MW (Norway), Alistair Cooper MW (UK), Philip Harden MW (UK), Ashley Hausman Vaughters MW (USA), Sarah Heller MW (Hong Kong), Tim Jackson MW (UK), Andreas Kubach MW (Spain), Fernando Mora MW (Spain), Aina Mee Myhre MW (Norway), Billo Naravane MW (USA), Catherine Petrie MW (UK), Nigel Sneyd MW (USA) and Morgan Twain-Peterson MW (USA).

There are now 369 Masters of Wine living in 29 countries.

Miguel A. Torres wins Lifetime Achievement Award

In collaboration with the Drinks Business at Vinexpo in June, we were delighted to announce Miguel A. Torres as the winner of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award recognises an outstanding and inspirational individual with a life-long commitment to wine excellence and is chosen every two years by Masters of Wine from around the world. The honour has previously been presented to Robert Mondavi (2005), Marchese Piero Antinori (2007), Jean-Michel Cazes (2011), Baroness Philippine de Rothschild (2013) and Hugh Johnson (2015).
Señor Torres, the President of Torres, was unveiled as the 2017 recipient in front of Masters of Wine and industry professionals at a ceremony in Vinexpo, Bordeaux on 19 June 2017.
